The Barcelona City Council has cut the price of .barcelona domain names in a bid for it “to be accessible to all the citizens of the metropolitan area.” The price reduction is ongoing and came into effect on 10 September.
While it’s the registry fee that has been reduced, the fee charged to registrars, registrars are free to charge their own fees for registration, as usual. The reduced fee wasn’t publicised in the announcement from domini.barcelona.
Additionally, on the occasion of La Mercè festivities, the City Council is preparing a communication campaign on social networks to publicise the advantages of using the .barcelona new generic top level domain (new gTLD), either for personal use or to position Barcelona’s businesses and entities on the Internet.
The team behind .barcelona is also working on a new, more interactive and updated .barcelona domain website, where citizens are directly involved and which will be launched soon. All the news on .barcelona is available on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
