Domain Shane’s Daily List of Domains at Auction for Monday March 27th

Escrow.com

I talked the other day about ending our relationship with Flippa due to lack of communication from the company. Since that a few things happened.  One, they did reach out.  A fellow domain investor sent them an email saying something to the effect “you should contact Shane, he says he can’t get someone to communicate with him”  Amber Burke sent me a nice email.  Everyone has great things to say about Amber and I’m sure she is a talented person.  But the email basically said, sorry for not telling anyone that Kevin Fink left and if there is anything you need let me know”.  But I’m afraid its just a little too late.  A thread started on Namepros about DSAD not using Flippa anymore and Michael Sumner added some data he’s collected to show my thoughts of decline are true.   Here is the data he presented on Namepros.

From Michael Sumner

“The Flippa Domains trend definitely isn’t positive, see the chart below. The green line is the total dollar volume they were doing per month, and the corresponding trendline shows a steep decline from more than $360k to around $180k. The red line is the number of sales they were closing per month at $100 and above, with a trendline showing a steep decline going from around 380 to right around 200.

But then you get to the blue line which is the number of sales per month below $100. You’ll notice the trendline for that is almost perfectly flat. From this data it is clear that they’re losing almost all of their dollar volume from higher-end sales. Basically they’re becoming a place to burn trash more so than they’ve ever been.

Please note the graph excludes outlier sales of $50k+, of which there were 10 in 2015, 3 in 2016, and none so far in 2017. This would have made the green trendline have an even steeper negative slope. Also note that Kevin left Flippa in January, and since then we have not received any data on auctions that did not complete. This means there are more sales in our database for 2017 than there should be, which would have caused the blue and red trendlines to be even steeper negative”

Again, I WANT the domain industry to have as many places to liquidate and buy domains as possible.  It is good for the market to have such entities.  Unfortunately a marketplace like this requires both inventory and buyers and can’t exist without a good dose of both sides.  It can crumble quickly if you lose trust in either side. By trust I mean that buyers need quality domains to buy and sellers need to get good prices.  If either of those sides suffer its over.  In order to run an auction house you have to figure out what it takes to keep both sides strong.  My opinion only, but I think the owners have too many other businesses going on to focus on what it takes to keep the domain auction house side going strong.

Namejet Auction

NMCT.com  Both Western and Chinese loved letters.  Will be top of the price tier

PeopleFoods.com     A little sarcastic in the name but that’s what we eat.  Not dog food or cat food. People food.  2 bidders

TwoDogs.com   Nice brand for any product, easy logo.   At $800 so others think so too

Home1.com   Adding numbers to me have always been a cheap way to get a memorable brand.   5 bidders agree

Appreciticeship.com  At $4000 but the reserve is 25-50K so people bid these up knowing that they won’t have to buy at those prices.  A bit of a game

DDDDDDD.com   Yup that’s 7 Ds.   2 bidders like it

ParkingX.com  Kind of the same idea as Home 1 but I think X is by far the best letter to add at the end

67.biz   Get one of 99.  NN.biz still have a good liquid market in the four figures

OFTM.com  One of the LLLL with a vowel that is a great end user name that the Chinese won’t like…..yet

RedVolt.com  Only two bidders and I’m one.  Like the brand

Dapar.com  5L with no bids.   Half a million google results

7BU.com  Getting a $200 bid but haven’t seen any of these sell for under $800
