Let’s face it, we all get excited when we get inquiries on our domain names since this means we could potentially sell the name. When that inquiry comes in you are eager to know how much the buyer is willing to pay and hoping the deal can close quick.
But…
We’ve encountered a road block in the form of the buyer stopping all sorts of communication even once they showed initial interest in our domain name. The one key factor is understanding the art of the follow up.
The more effective you are at following up the more sales you will make.
Here are 3 tactics that will help you be more effective at following up:
#1 – Get The Right Email Plugin
There are a ton of helpful plugins to make following up easier. The one I like most is Google Streak. You will need Google Chrome to use it and works with Gmail. This plugin lets you schedule emails to be sent at specific times, this is helpful because most emails get a better open rate in the mornings, in my opinion from personal tests. Another good feature is that it tells you if they opened the email, how many times, even what time they opened it etc.
#2 – The Fortune Is In The Follow Up
Have you ever heard the phrase, “the fortune is in the follow up”? I know it can be difficult to remember to follow up when you have a busy schedule but it is essential to continue to do so. One of the best ways to remember is to label the emails (streak helps you do this) once you send them and set some type of calendar reminder to follow up every other week. I don’t know the exact number but I remember reading that most sales are made between the 7th and 12th contact.
So don’t be scared to follow up!
#3 – A Lower Price Still Equals A Profit
If you are getting responses from prospects but they simply won’t go up on their offer, as long as you are making a good profit don’t hesitate to pull the trigger. A good follow up strategy is to offer a discount or special price and see if the potential buyer is interested.
Just remember, know your price. Don’t undersell your domain names but if you have a true cash offer that’s respectable, take it. I’d rather have $1,000 right now then possibly $5,000 some time in the future.
