Roger Montti at Search Engine Journal published a back and forth on X between an SEO consultant and John Mueller of Google.
“Does the age of a domain name impact Google search rankings?”
Mueller first replied, “Primarily those who want to sell you aged domains :-)” He then later tweeted, “No, domain age helps nothing.”
Montti did mention how a Google patent might have had some thinking age did matter. The patent, Information retrieval based on historical data. The patent did mention domains in the context of historical data. Montti writes, “Their reading of that patent was 100% incorrect.”
It seems Google wanted to focus on age to spot spam sites, new sites on throwaway little aged domain names.
