This announcement is to inform you of updates to the base New gTLD Registry Agreement (the “Registry Agreement”) which will now be applicable to new gTLDs effective on 31 July 2017. These updates, the result of negotiations between existing new gTLD Registry Operators and ICANN, were approved pursuant to the provisions in the Registry Agreement described below. Going forward, ICANN will be required to execute Registry Agreements inclusive of the revisions resulting from the 2017 Global Amendment (“Global Amendment”).
Background:
On 01 June 2017, ICANN issued a 60-day notice to the effective date of the Global Amendment to the base New gTLD Registry Agreement to all effected registry operators. This 60-day notice followed the approval of the Global Amendment by eligible registry operators as of the end of the voting period on 10 April 2017 and by the ICANN Board on 18 May 2017 as outlined in the Approved Board Resolution. Prior to these approvals, ICANN and the RySG Working Group engaged in bilateral negotiations and ICANN posted the proposed revisions for public comment from 31 May 2016 to 20 July 2016.
The revisions to the Registry Agreement resulting from the Global Amendment will be effective in the form of the 2017 Registry Agreement as of 31 July 2017. Individual execution for existing registry operators is not contemplated according to Section 7.7(c) of the Registry Agreement. Please refer to the reference materials provided on ICANN’s Global Ament webpage to review the changes to the Registry Agreement, determine necessary implementation measures, and to track updates from ICANN.
