For the first time in the IGF history, Germany will be hosting the Annual Meeting of the United Nations’ Internet Governance Forum
this year. Under the overarching theme ‘One World. One Net. One
Vision.’ several thousand delegates of governments and international
organisations will come together from all parts of the world with
international representatives from the private sector, academia, the
technical sector and civil society. From 25 to 29 November they will
conduct the IGF’s 14th annual dialogue about rules, values and standards
for the Internet of the presence and the future on an equal footing in
the German capital of Berlin.
A comprehensive program will be offered at the five conference days with sessions, discussions and workshops that will focus on three priority themes: Data management and data protection (Data Governance) – general access to and participation in digitisation and its shaping on an equal footing (Digital Inclusion) – protection of people, resources and infrastructures in the digital age (Security & Safety, Stability & Resilience). A secondary focus will be on opportunities and potential involvement of SMEs in Internet governance.
The
Internet Governance Forum will be officially opened by the
Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dr. António Guterres, and
German Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel, on Tuesday, 26 November 2019 at
14:00 CET.
DENIC’s information platform IG Radar: understanding and following up on Internet governance processes
Under the motto “Internet Governance Matters to Everyone!”, DENIC as a member of the advisory board of the Internet Governance Forum Germany (IGF-D)
has committed itself in the year of the IGF in Berlin to introducing
the Internet governance ecosystem with its multiple thematic strands and
interrelations to the interested wider public in Germany and abroad. A
compact three-part feature series on Internet governance on the DENIC
website offers first, low-threshold access to the theme:
But
this is not all: Even though virtually everybody involved in digital
policy matters is currently talking about Internet governance, until
recently there was no online offer available in German that provides
newcomers and advanced users alike with comprehensive basic knowledge
and in-depth background information on topics, players and new
developments in a compact format that is kept regularly up-to-date.
This gap has been closed by the German/English Internet Governance Radar,
an online information platform offered by DENIC eG. Being the manager
of the technical infrastructure of the German namespace on the Internet,
the DENIC Cooperative ensures that websites and web services ending
with the country code .de are available around the clock, safely,
securely and reliably. On average, DENIC manages access to domain names
more than six billion times every day.
DENIC’s Internet Governance Radar platform is also the
only German-language source of reference recommended on the official
IGF event website hosted by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs
and Energy.
DENIC@IGF 2019: Communicating with the world
Moreover, DENIC
will host an information booth, which will be open on all conference
days, in the exhibition area of the Internet Governance Forum, called
the IGF 2019 Village. Here, DENIC will inform visitors about the
Cooperative’s manifold Internet governance activities in general and
about the Internet Governance Radar platform in particular (Estrel
Congress Center, Foyer 1, Booth 11).
We are looking forward to your visit – be it virtual or in person.
