.PL Registrations Down, Renewals Up, in Second Quarter

Renewal rates are going up, but total registration numbers are down for Poland’s ccTLD .pl, according to their latest Domain Name Market quarterly report for the second quarter of 2019.

At the end of June, there were 2,602,326 .pl domain names under
management, a decrease of 8,461 as compared to the previous quarter and down
from 2.57 million 12 months ago. Since a peak in registrations in 2015/16 of
around 2.7 million, numbers declined slightly and have remained fairly stable for
the last 2 years. It’s a trend that’s not unfamiliar to ccTLDs throughout
Europe.

During the second quarter according to the report, 196,360
.pl domain names were registered, which was 62,000 less than the previous
quarter. The average number of .pl domain names registered each day was 2,158,
which means that almost 90 domain names were being registered per hour.

The number of renewed .pl domain names increased again to
65.94% for the quarter, an increase on the 64.16% a year ago. At the end of the
quarter there were 1,085,029 registrants, up by almost 1,500 over the previous
quarter and 31,835 on 12 months ago. On average there were 2.40 .pl domain
names per registrant.

At the end of the quarter, there were 489,945 domain names
secured with the DNSSEC protocol, a decrease of 11,842.

The second quarter also saw the first activations of the
registry’s new service – .pl Registry Lock. The Registry Lock provides top-level
domain security.
